Seminary History

Living Waters Theological Seminary is a theological institution of the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe. It was founded in 1974 by Reverend Willard Wilson, an American Missionary. The Seminary was then known as the Rhodesia African Theological College in the pre-independence era and was situated at Stand 693 Zhakata Street, Dzivarasekwa, Harare. Reverend Ronald Kinnear, a South African Missionary, later changed the College’s name to Living Waters Theological Seminary. The Seminary eventually moved to a spacious, 25 acre piece of land at Plot 23C, Maribou Road, Tynwald, Harare in 1987. The relocation to these new premises was under the leadership of Dr. Gerald Rozzell, the then principal from 1982-1990. The Seminary’s first indigenous principal is Dr. C.M. Murefu, who took over from Dr. Rozell in 1990.

Reverend Charles R. Chipere was the Academic Dean from 1991 to 1996, Reverend Patrick Kwesha then took over from 1997 to 2004. From 2005 to 2008 Reverend Lovejoy Chabata was the Academic Dean, Reverend Francis Machingura succeeded Reverend Chabata in 2008. Reverend Nommater Sande took over from 2009 and is currently under Rev G Nhembo.

Over the years the Seminary has earned itself international recognition attracting students from various denominations and countries such as Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi, Zaire, Zambia, Mozambique, South Africa and Botswana. The Seminary is a paragon of Pentecostalism and academic profundity. Its sterling contribution to the Kingdom of God can be mirrored in the great exploits wrought through its alumni scattered all over Africa and beyond.
